How does an artist represent commonplace objects that possess personal meaning or symbolism? How can an object stand in for a person or memory? What are the origins of a still-life painting or a portrait?
Stimulus: Origins brings together artists creating with oil, acrylic, and photography to answer these questions and reveal clues to underlying themes found in their work. Conversation participants include summer artist-in-residence Chris Clamp, alumni artists-in-residence de’Angelo Dia (2010), painter and ceramicist Kristen van Diggelen Sloan, and painter John Seibels Walker. Visiting curator Marisa J Pascucci will guide the conversation.
We encourage you to bring an object that holds a powerful memory of a person or event to share with the artists and other participants.
The Stimulus series offers you deeper insight into the work and ideas of contemporary artists. These sessions aim to make connections between current McColl Center artists-in-residence, McColl Center alumni artists, and our constantly evolving local arts community.
